NHS England has announced the opening of 12 new mpox vaccination sites, expanding access for those eligible to get protected. This expansion ensures that every region across England can now offer the vaccine, beyond the existing locations in London, Manchester, and Brighton.
Responding to the announcement, Professor Matt Phillips, BASHH President, commented:
“BASHH welcomes the expansion of mpox vaccination sites in England, bringing us closer to meeting recommendations for a routine programme made by JCVI more than a year ago. Since we first saw cases emerge in England in 2022, vaccination has been critical in preventing further transmission in affected communities. We strongly encourage those eligible to come forward and take advantage of this increased accessibility across the country.
We commend the ongoing dedication of Genitourinary medicine (sexual health) professionals who have been vigilant in identifying and reporting cases swiftly. Their efforts have been instrumental in containing mpox and protecting public health.”
BASHH remains committed to working with colleagues across the sector to ensure continued vigilance in addressing mpox, and the latest cases of Clade 1b, alongside providing vital access to sexual health services.
