Dr Deb Wardle, Chair of the BASHH sexual violence and domestic abuse special interest group will introduce this session on the role of sexual health in supporting and manging domestic abuse and sexual violence disclosures.
Dr Rachel Caswell, University Hospitals Birmingham will present; Improving disclosure and management of sexual violence in sexual health settings ; Where does routine enquiry fit? The acceptability of sexual violence enquiry will be discussed and the importance of ensuring we have inclusive and accessible services and how we can provide environments with trauma informed principles of safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment firmly embedded in service delivery models to support disclosure, minimise the risk of re-traumatisation and reduce the impact of sexual violence.
Dr Amy Bennett will present the outcomes of a survey looking at sexual violence and domestic abuse enquiry in our services across the UK and enlighten us to some of the challenges in including routine enquiry into our consultations.
Charlotte Chappell (IRiSi ADViSE)(Identification& Referral to Improve Safety) and Ali Mears will present outcomes of a collaborative pilot supporting disclosures in sexual health services, sharing service user quotes emphasising the power of being asked.
